Travelling through the tunnel on Friday from KENT to watch the Happy Mondays, staying at the Park Inn. Any decent boozers for pre/post gig beers, anywhere to avoid? I found a place called The Alex that looks ok, or is it a shithole?

The Alex is a good pub Violator. Alternative music type place.
The railway up by Southend Central station is another decent one

Go down Hamlet Court Road fella... 3 or 4 boozers down there (we normally go in the Hamlet Court).. all about a 5/10 min walk to the Cliffs.. the bar in the Cliffs ain't too bad either.... stay away from the Southend High Street at night... well unless you want fuck nuts out of their head on Spice trying to molest you... it's getting a seriously no go zone once the Sun dips
